About The Savoy Society

The Savoy Society was founded in 1990, under the guidance of the late Sir Hugh Wontner, to be a point of contact for former employees of The Savoy Group of Hotels and Restaurants.

Can I join The Savoy Society?

If you have previously worked for any of the former Savoy Group of hotels and restaurants for two years or more, then yes, you can join!

Which properties are included?

When the Society was established, it was for former employees of The Savoy Group of properties; despite the changes in ownership for each of the hotels in the meantime, the membership is still from the properties formally united in that Group, but now extends to staff of those properties during any period of their history to the present day.

  • The Savoy
  • Claridge’s
  • The Berkeley (the old and the new)
  • The Connaught
  • Simpson’s In The Strand
  • The Lygon Arms

And head office roles too

Can I be a member if I currently work at one of the properties?

Membership is not open to current employees of the former Savoy Group.  If a member is re-employed by one of the properties, their membership is suspended and reinstated in the future when their career takes them away from the former Group again.

Can I join the Savoy Society if I am a student?

If you are a university student studying a Hospitality Management degree and are successfully awarded a place on the Savoy Society Mentoring Scheme you are eligible to be an Associate Member, with the opportunity to become a full member of the Society at the end of the two year programme.

Why should I join?

The Society is celebrating its 21st anniversary, having been established as a point of contact for former employees of the former Savoy Group of Hotels and Restaurants in 1990.  Its aim remains to enable friends and former colleagues to socialise and discuss matters of mutual interest.

Our objective is to strive to further the achievement of excellence within the leisure, hotel and catering industry. We provide a social forum for our members to meet and exchange ideas, and to act as a pressure group in such matters as it sees fit.

We host events throughout the year such as cocktail parties and dinners, where everybody can catch up with old friends and make new ones, as well establish and nurture relationships with useful contacts.

Uniquely, members can also support the Savoy Society Mentoring Scheme, offering support and guidance to the future talent of the industry.

Once a member you also have full access to the Savoy Society website and are included in our LinkedIn group for news and updates.

And you get a badge.

What will it cost me?

Once you have completed your online application you are asked to pay £50, half of which is a joining fee, with a £25 membership subscription due each year thereafter.  It is easy to pay online using PayPal.

The only other thing we ask is that you try and come along and participate in the Society calendar of events, support the Mentoring programme, introduce other new members, and if you get the urge, contribute news, views and pictures for our website and LinkedIn group.
